PAINTINGS AND DRAWINGS

My art includes drawings rendered chiefly in white ink, black ink, graphite, or pastel. I also make paintings and drawings which are full color renderings.

My life for as long as I can remember has been filled with the love of art and artistic expression. I've had little formal art training, but am largely self-taught as an artist. Although my paintings and drawings are currently of an abstract and often symbolic nature, I also enjoy creating works that are more realistic and down to earth, with subjects inspired by the Great Lakes area where I live, especially its lighthouses and maritime features. I'm always open to exploring new mediums and styles, as well as experimenting with more non-conventional things, such as creating paintings with house paint, or drawing on watercolor paper - just to see what kinds of effects might result.

Moody weather and cloudy days often inspire me more than 'smiley face days'. I adore gnarled and twisted trees, unusual rock formations, sand blowing across the dunes, or faces that are weather-worn and full of the wisdom gained through the school of hard knocks for portraits.

Currently my main projects are detailed abstract ink drawings, mostly in black and white. However that can be subject to change without notice! And I do enjoy a bit of experimenting with digital art as well.

My future plans for art? Well, who knows? To me art is an inspirational and imaginative process that can arise from within the artist, or it may be triggered by something on the outside. As Einstein said, 'Imagination is more important than knowledge,' and that it's a preview of life's coming attractions. I tend to agree with him.
